Halldór and Lilián, the hosts at Fljótstunga offer cottages  (1 for 2 pers. in cat. A and 1 for 4 pers. in cat. C), 2 double rooms at the farmhouse, sleeping bag accommodation in unit cottages, camping and a gathering space for all guests to dine and relax.  
Breakfast is served with homemade jam, bread, and even tomatoes.

In the land of Fljótstunga is the cave Víðgelmir, one of the largest lava caves in the world and the largest cave in Iceland. It is a preserved cave and Halldór and Lilián offer guided tours inside the cave.  

At Fljótstunga there are fishing rivers, waterfalls, lava fields, horses, and many beautiful hiking paths. It is deep in the valley and very close to the 2nd largest glacier of the country. Surrounded by spectacular glaciers and mountains it is a perfect place to see the northern lights. 

Fljótstunga farm dates back to the year 1011 in the old Grettir saga. The land has run through one family since 1879 and is one of the five original tourist farms in Iceland.

How to find:        
Fljótstunga is by road no. 518 

From Reykjavík: Leave Reykjavík heading towards Akureyri on main ring road no. 1. About 15 km after you leave Reykjavík you come to the village of Mosfellsbær and when you have passed it you need to continue some 20 km before you come to the Hvalfjörður tunnel (road toll ISK 1000,-) and after you have passed the tunnel you need to continue about 35 km before turning right into Borgarfjarðarbraut (road no. 50). Continue on road no. 50 for about 35 km before turning right into Hálsasveitavegur (road no 518). Drive Hálsasveitavegur (road no. 518) for about 20 km, turn left on Hvítársíðuvegur (a bridge over Hvítá) and drive for about 1 km, then turn left and continue on Háslasveitavegur (road no. 518) for about 10km. On your left hans side you will see the farm sign for Fljótstunga, turn left and drive toward the farm for about 0,50 km.

From Borgarnes: Leaving Borgarnes heading towards Reykjavík on main ring road no. 1. As you leave Borgarnes you cross a bridge and right after the bridge you turn left into Borgarfjarðarbraut (road no. 50). Continue on road no. 50 for about 35 km before turning right into Hálsasveitavegur (road no 518). Drive Hálsasveitavegur (road no. 518) for about 20 km, turn left on Hvítársíðuvegur (a bridge over Hvítá) and drive for about 1 km, then turn left and continue on Háslasveitavegur (road no. 518) for about 10km. On your left hans side you will see the farm sign for Fljótstunga, turn left and drive toward the farm for about 0,50 km.
