Farm Categories

The farms offer accomodation based on these four definitions:

Farmhouse:

The guests stay in the home of the hosts. The rooms are simple but comfortable and adequate, some of them might have rooms with private facilities.

Farmer's guesthouse:
The rooms can be in the same building as the hosts, but separated from their home, in another country-house, unit cottages or cottages. Rooms with both shared and private facilities.

Country hotel:
More luxury in comfort and service available. All the rooms in cat. IV have private facilities and are better equipped.

Cottage:

All cottages have cooking facilities and the necessary kitchen utensils and crockery for the registered number of guests. Duvets are supplied but guests have to rent bed linen.

The rooms in Farmhouses, Farmer's guesthouses and Country hotels can be of four different cagetories:

These rooms are simple, comfortable and adequate. The beds are made and rooms cleaned daily. Clean towels are supplied. Guests have access to communal sitting room. Breakfast included.

II  In addition to category I, all rooms have hand basins and are generally of a higher standard and better equipped. Breakfast included.

III  In addition to categories I and II, rooms have private bathroom. These rooms can be in farmhouses, guesthouses and cottages. Breakfast included.

IV  Rooms with private facilities in country hotels. Better equipped with TV, radio and sometimes coffee making facilities. Breakfast included.

Sleeping bag accommodation (without breakfast)
Sleeping bag accommodation can be in ordinary sized rooms (1-4 pers.) and is mostly in beds, although mattresses are sometimes provided when extra beds are needed.

The Cottages can be of four categories A, B, C or D
The cottages are rented both on daily and weekly basis. All cottages must be neat and in good condition. They must have running water and a WC. They are mostly family cottages and often not big enough to accommodate only adult guests. Duvets are supplied but guests are required to rent bed linen and expected to clean before departure. All cottages have cooking facilities and the necessary kitchen utensils and crockery for the registered number of guests. The difference between the classification A, B, C and D is mainly a question of size, extra facilities and comfort.

These cottages are simple and need only to be one room and WC facilities. Cooking facilities and refrigerator.

These cottages have at least one separate bedroom. Coffee maker. Shower facilities in the area

In addition to the requirements of A and B, there is a shower in the cottage and at least one well-equipped bedroom w/bedside tables and a wardrobe. Coffee-maker and toaster. Outside the cottage is a veranda with garden furniture and barbeque.

These are cottages with requirements of overall good standard, at least one well-equipped bedroom with bedside tables and wardrobe. Comfortable and tasteful furniture. Outside the cottage is a veranda with garden furniture, barbeque and hot tub/jacuzzi.

The Icelandic Tourist Board acknowledges and approves the classification system used by the Icelandic Farm Holidays.
